The cold side of the kitchen, put right.
Independent service for Sub-Zero built-ins on the Marblehead peninsula — columns, drawers, undercounter units and wine storage. Diagnosis first, a single parts-and-labour figure second, work third.
Flat $95 service call — the visit and the full diagnosis, credited against an approved repair.
Three stages, and you decide at the end of the second.
-
One
Describe it on the phone
The model and serial number are on a plate inside the fresh food compartment, usually on the left wall behind the top drawer. That number plus a plain description of what the unit is doing gets most of the diagnosis started before anyone leaves.
-
Two
Diagnosis in your kitchen
A flat $95 covers the visit and the full diagnosis. Gauges on the sealed system where the symptom points that way, meter readings on fans, heaters and thermistors everywhere else.
-
Three
One number, then a decision
Parts and labour quoted together before anything is opened up, and the service call comes off that figure if you go ahead. If the honest answer is that the unit is not worth the repair, you get told that instead.

Refrigeration only
Columns, drawers, undercounter units and wine storage. No ranges, no laundry — one family of appliances, worked on every day.
-
Readings before parts
Suction and discharge pressures, evaporator and condenser temperatures, defrost circuit resistance. A part is ordered because a number says so.
-
Salt air is part of the job
Condensers on the peninsula load up with salt and grit far faster than they do inland, and a fan motor seizes years earlier for it. Both get looked at on every call.
-
Panels come off carefully
Integrated units live inside cabinetry that was built around them. Trim, hinges and toe kicks are removed and refitted, not levered.

The causeway was flooded at high tide so he rerouted and still made the window. A fan blade had cracked and was clipping the shroud. Quick swap, and he checked the door seal while he was in there.

Narrow lane, nowhere to park, and he still turned up when he said he would. The control board had failed and the readout was stuck on one number. Ordered the part and fitted it four days later.

Condensation was running down the inside of the glass every morning. He found the door slightly out of square after a cabinet job and adjusted the hinges. No fogging since then.
Lorene U. Clifton ★★★★★
All of it refrigeration, none of it guesswork.

Refrigerator Repair Built-in and integrated Sub-Zero refrigerators live hard on a peninsula: salt air coats condensers, and panel-ready units sit trapped in cabinetry where nothing slides out easily. Fresh food side drifting warm while the freezer stays coldCondenser running almost continuously and the grille area feels hot See the page → -
Freezer Repair Freezer columns and freezer drawers fail quietly — the food tells you before the display does. Frost sheeting over the back wall and across the ice binFreezer section running warm while the compressor sounds normal See the page → -
Ice Maker Repair The ice maker is the most-used moving part in the whole refrigerator, and it is usually the first to complain. Hollow or half-formed cubes coming out of the mouldNo ice at all even though water is still filling See the page → -
Wine Cooler Repair Undercounter and tall wine storage has to hold a narrow band of temperature and humidity through a coastal summer, and a drifting zone is a real problem for a stored collection. Upper and lower zones drifting toward the same temperatureUnit running warm once the humid weather arrives See the page →

Old Town01945 Old Town is a dense weave of eighteenth-century half-houses and Georgians on lanes barely wide enough for a van, with kitchens tucked into low-ceilinged rear ells. Doorway widths and stair turns decide what can realistically be carried in and out. -
Marblehead Neck01945 The Neck is large waterfront property reached over the causeway, shingle-style and Colonial Revival houses whose kitchens have mostly been rebuilt from scratch. Full professional suites are the norm, and salt air is hard on exterior-facing vents and stainless finishes. -
Clifton01945 Clifton spreads along the Swampscott line, a calmer mix of early-century cottages, Capes and postwar houses on modest lots. Kitchens are smaller and tend to be updated one appliance at a time rather than gutted. -
Salem01970 Federal and Colonial houses in the McIntire District alongside Victorian conversions and newer harbourfront condominiums. Kitchens are frequently retrofits into rooms that predate the appliance by two centuries.
